The People’s Reviews: Best PPV Matches Disc 3

Alrighty kiddos, here’s the final disc. Does it pick up the spare, or is it a gutter ball that causes you to lose a bet in which now you have to organize Elton John’s porno collection. Which, would be a bummer.

Hell in a Cell: DX vs. Legacy
Place: Hell in a Cell
Duration: 18:02
Goddamn, really? How on Earth did they feel that this was how it should go down? It was a 20 minute handi-cap match. It was so boring, and so pointless. They could have really ripped shit up in the cage, but instead they waste it by trying to show how ruthless Legacy is. Despite the fact they could have just done that during a segment on Raw. Crap on a stick, man.

D-Generation X, Big Show, Jack Swagger, Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston (RAW) vs. Chris Jericho, Kane, Matt Hardy, Finlay, R-Truth, Hart Dynasty (SmackDown)
Place: Bragging Rights
Duration: 15:34
For all the talent, this was a pretty boring match. Plus, when you have 14 people in a match, it needs to be elimination. Not just one pin or submission and that’s it. 15 minutes isn’t very much time for what’s suppose to be Raw vs. Smackdown. This should have been really epic, but it seemed like a main event on Raw. Bah.

Traditional Survivor Series Match-Up: John Morrison, Matt Hardy, Evan Bourne, Shelton Benjamin, Finlay vs. The Miz, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger
Place: Survivor Series 2009
Duration: 20:53
This match was the opening bout for Survivor Series, and in that facet it works just fine. However, this doesn’t belong on a Best Of. There’s no problem with the match. It was fast paced, everyone got their chance to shine, and it delivered. But it wasn’t anything that set the World on fire. I have no idea why they chose this instead of the main event, which I’ve heard was quite good.

Ladder Match for the ECW Championship: Christian [C] vs. Shelton Benjamin
Place: TLC
Duration: 18:05
They set out to steal the show, I haven’t seen the PPV, so I can’t confirm or deny if they completed their intended goal. A lot of people say they have, but I love me some TLC matches, so I’d imagine the main event is kick ass. I also love any match that Taker & Batista have had, so I assume their match is great too. What I can say for sure is that they stole the show on this disc. They’re both veterans of the ladder match, so it’s no shock that this match kicks ass. Of course, we all know how I feel about their blood stoppage thing, but oh well. Very sick ending, if I do say so myself. It’s great when King…or Cole, whomever, said how they just snapped the steel ladder, despite the fact you can see a ton of wood shards and such. If it had been Schivonne, he would have said the ladder was made out of lazers or something.

WWE Women’s Championship: Michelle McCool [C] vs. Mickie James
Place: Royal Rumble 2010
Duration: .18 seconds
I think we all know that most Diva matches suck ass, so this was right on. The whole build up and such was great, and you really wanted McCool to get hers. So instead of going like 8 minutes in a mediocre match that would have been forgotten, was instead turned into one that’s memorable. Plus, Mickie is super hot, and any chance we get to see her is a good thing.

Streak vs. Career: Shawn Micheals vs. The Undertaker
Place: Wrestlemania 26
Duration: 23:59
I just reviewed this bad boy. Great match, light years ahead of their drastically over-rated match at Wrestlemania 25.
Rating: * * * * 1/2th
So, in the end, Disc 3 is a bit of a let down. There’s 2 out standing matches, one that isn’t even a match, 2 mediocre, and one that flat out sucks. It’s certainly not bad enough to hamper this as a purchase though, as this set is a must.

House On Fire Rating: 85% of my house would have to be in flames to keep me from running in to save it.

  1. This actually has the strange effect of making me want to see the PPVs I haven’t seen this year, i.e. Bragging Rights and WM26..

  2. Yeah, WM26 is mos def worth it, I don’t know about Bragging Rights. Regardless, I still want to see it because I’m just a wrestling nerd, really.

I did find TLC at netflix, so I should have a review up for that, which I think I’ll love, as I’m a pinch younger than most peeps who do reviews and I don’t think Flair/Steamboat is the greatest series of matches ever.

Thanks for dropping a line, Chris, I appreciate it…
