Jason vs Julius
Friday The 13th – Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

With the exception of the first one, I love every entry in the Friday series. Along with part 5, Jason Takes Manhattan is often on receiving end of some heavy verbal bashing. Hell, Entertainment Weekly had it on their list of 25 Worst Sequels. While not a 5 star classic, it has a lot of charm and is fun as hell to watch. Kane Hodder makes history as the first man to reprise the role of Jason, as he stomps around a cruise ship & New York, dispatching the asshole teenagers who had the nerve to graduate. One of them is a kid named Julius who’s an aspiring boxer. While being chased around New York [Vancouver], he finally comes face to face with Jason a rooftop. Now, most men would cry and try to beat down Jason with their purse, but Julius mans the fuck up and takes on Jason with just his 2 fists.  Jason however goes the Rocky route and just lets himself get punched all to hell before making his first strike. He goes the Johnny Cage route and caps off what is the most memorable moment of not only Jason Takes Manhattan, but the entire series. And for the record, fuck Entertainment Weekly, Friday part 8 is fantastic.

  1. I love the Friday series but I have to disagree with you, part one is fantastic, not only does it feature Kevin Bacon but it has the end sequence that became a Friday staple!!

    • Yeah, I’m sure some people think I’m a bit wack for enjoying Friday 5, 8, 9, and 10 more than the first. However, the first just feels & looks so cheap. I can’t get over it. Plus, I don’t much like the characters, and while Bacon is awesome, his death is so stupid. His neck looks like it’s 4ft long. I think they should have been a bit more attentive to it.

I do dig when Mrs. Voorhees comes into the movie. Also, to be honest, it’s been 10 years or so since I’ve seen the original, so perhaps I owe it to the series to go back and check it out.
