Resident Evil on Playstation – 1996

Today we go back to when I was 12 years old and finally got a Playstation. With it, there was only one game I was interested in; Resident Evil. Still to this day there’s never been a game I put so much time into it. I was obsessed with it, and up until RE5, I bought every single RE title the day it came out, and bought entire game systems just so I could play the games. The series is such a mastercraft in survival horror, with awesome monsters, weapons, detective work, and in the originals, terrible voice acting.
The video I have here today is the first 10 minutes of the game. You get to see the classic LIVE ACTION INTRO, which blew my fucking mind, and then the first few minutes of when the game starts. You’ll marvel at the fantastic voice acting, with cheesy diolouge and odd pronunciation. It’s what helped to make the game so endearing. People say the series has strayed too far away from it’s Plant-42 roots, and while that may be true, the games are still awesome.
WHAT A MANSION!

  1. Funny you post this, I just played through RE1 over the past two days, I remember it was a game changer for me back in the day. I got my ps1 and played many of the originals… Twisted Metal, Loaded and NHL, but then I got a hold of RE1 and gaming was forever changed, a new type of gameplay with a story I was interested, goodbye platformers hello survival horror. One of the all time great games in my opinion and I got it bundled with RE2 and RE3, going to be putting in some serious time in Raccoon city!

    • I know what you mean. First time I played RE1 was at my friend’s house in 6th grade. The PS1 had just come out, and we didn’t know shit about a “memory card”, so, he rented this game called Resident Evil, and man, we were hooked. Of course, we didn’t have a memory card, so we’d die, and just have to start all over. For days we’d talk about it. What was Wesker up to? Was Barry a bad guy?

Finally, about a year later, I got my own PS, and the game I INSISTED we buy with it was RE1. Man, I can’t tell you how happy I was.

Scariest moment I’ve ever had playing a video game, or perhaps in life, was right after you come back from the caves. You know how it has that cut scene with the Hunter? Well, I thought he was the only one. So, I’m playing the game, sitting in a chair, with a friend sitting behind me, on a stool. I run away from the Hunter, and down the adjacent hallway, when all of a sudden another one comes leaping out, slashing and screaming. I screamed like a bitch and leaped backwards so hard I knocked myself and my friend out of our chairs.

Then I was stuck for DAYS, trying to figure out what to do. I had no where to go, and no clues. Finally, I was at my friend’s house who had a computer, and I had him look up Resident Evil, it was there I discovered that you could open those North & South books. Man, I ran home faster than the Flash. I beat it that night, and got the scenario where Barry died. I won’t lie, I teared up. Barry was always my favorite.

I loved REmake, and wish they’d remake the others.
