Minute Man Reviews – Mad Max, Terminator: Genisys, Jurassic World, Ted 2
Also, dig the latest episode of Mercy Is For The Weak podcast. I usually don’t over-state things, but I can say with 100% certainty that, yes, it will change your life.
First up is Jurassic World, the biggest film of the year. Honestly, it wasn’t that great. If you’re a fan of the original, then just stick with that. But if you’ve never seen it, then you’ll probably enjoy this a lot because you’ll have nothing to compare it to. Everything was CGI, none of the characters were interesting, and Ian Malcolm was sorely missing. I don’t mean to say it’s a terrible film, just very middle of the road.
When I saw an excerpt from a review that called this the greatest action movie ever, I knew I had to see it. One thing I can say for sure, it’s not the greatest action film ever. It’s a lot of fun, with fantastic stunt-work, characters, landscapes, and action. It’s a damn good film, but I don’t think it tops Mad Max 2. Either way, this is definitely worth checking out.
I was really hesitant about this one because the trailer had pretty much nothing but bad jokes. However, it’s not bad. If you dug the first one, you’ll like this one, only not as much. The fact they actually tried to explain away Mila Kunis’ character was stupid. I was hoping they were gonna do something like “Man, remember when your wife was hit by a lightening bolt and an RV and a comet at the same time? Bummer.” Instead they really ruined the character arch they built with the first story. I don’t find Amanda’s character all that interesting, and why she’d want to date a burn out in his 40’s when she’s a budding lawyer in her early 20’s is a bit odd. Regardless, it’s a fun movie, but one you should wait for on Netflix, or HBO, or Redbox, or whatever method you use.
Ah, nothing like seeing Arnold back as The Terminator on the big screen. For some reason, this movie is getting pretty rough reviews, and it doesn’t deserve it. A good portion of those reviewing are around my age, which means they grew up with Terminator 2: Judgment Day. One of the most well received and loved movies of all time. Ever since that sequel, people keep comparing all other films to it, and it’s down right annoying. This film is interesting, with a very original, very cool plot, characters you dig seeing, and some fantastic action. What the hell else more do you people want? I will say that the main evil-Terminator in this film just doesn’t work, and lacks the menace of Arnold in the original role, Robert Patrick, or even Kristanna Loken. Also, they don’t need to quit building up how powerful the Terminators are. Leave them at the status of T-1000, and we’re good. Bottom line, it’s a movie very much worth seeing, really fun.
